To look only at the numbers, 6,213 total yards and 56 touchdowns, one can't fully grasp the greatness of Gale Sayers. Bursting onto the scene in 1965, the "Kansas Comet" eluded every defenseman on his way to scoring an unbelievable twenty-two touchdowns. For the next five years he would dominate like none had seen before, until a career-ending knee injury forced him to retire. Shortly thereafter, at only thirty-four years of age, he would become the youngest individual ever to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. We proudly offer Gale's Chicago Bears white cotton "home" jersey, circa 1969-70. His double-layer blue-on-orange tackle twill number "40" appears on the chest, back, and sleeves with tagging from "King-O'Shea [size] 46" on the front tail. Evidence of its tremendous use is boasted throughout in the form of sweat and blood spot stains. Along the seams and sleeves are seperations that tell the tales of frustrated opponents who nearly had Sayers in their grasp with additional team repairs to the right sleeve. A most magnificent specimen that is as much remarkable as it is rare. This was passed down from father to son (who has owned it for the last 15 years), and the jersey is just now seeing the light of day.
