Extremely rare flyer and ticket from Chicago’s first black professional team. This 19th century Negro League team (1888-1900) was managed by Frank Leland, who combined the team with the Chicago Leland Giants in 1901. The team would later be renamed, the Leland Giants. Flyer is printed with “black face” team logo and the date, “Sunday Eve. Nov. 28, 1897.” At bottom is the announcement: “Grand Entertainment to conclude with a Grand Ball!! Dec. 5, ’97 - Rialtos vs. Chicago Unions - the colored team.” Flyer is folded and slightly separated along some folds and very frail. Measures 6x9”. Ticket (4x2.75”) for Sunday evening, Jan. 23, 1898 at Washington Turner Hall vs. the Rialtos displays same “black face.” Top edge is slightly torn off, as well as bottom left corner. Overall VG.
