A landmark set issued by Topps during the company’s first year in the baseball card business. Why not capitalize on the greatest names the game has ever known? The venerable manager Connie Mack selected his All-Time team (with Ty Cobb conspicuously absent) of 11 players. These large cards were die-cut to allow enterprising youngsters to stand and adjust their favorite ballplayers. These cards are rarely seen at all, especially intact. As is the case with "die cut" cards, the background could be easily removed enabling the cards to stand on their own. Consequently, very few examples still exist fully intact. This offering contains the three most valuable cards in the set and, arguably, the most popular duo to ever wear pin stripes, Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig. All three cards show evidence of creasing but as evidenced by our photo, all three present beautifully. Includes: Babe Ruth - perforation appears intact, crease horizontally across middle. Grades technically GD-VG but presents much nicer. Lou Gehrig - perforated along majority with creasing that touches his head. Grades technically FR-GD. Walter Johnson - perforated along half the card with the right border separated from the hinge. Crease horizontally across middle plus a small dark stain on the reverse. Grades technically FR. The bold red background on each enhances the black and white action shot of these early legends of our national past time. When was the last time you saw 51 Connie Mack All Stars? How many can still exist? A great addition to any collection with investment potential written all over this offering. A trio of scarce and popular cards from Topps’ first year in baseball.
