One of the most momentous photos to come out of the Negro Leagues is the legendary Hall of Famer, Andrew “Rube” Foster, the owner of the Chicago American Giants, widely considered to be the greatest baseball talent ever assembled. Sporting a Chicago American Giants uniform, Foster is standing with one of the great Negro League managers, who managed the Indianapolis ABC’s, C.I. Taylor. Taylor is wearing the Indianapolis ABC’s uniform, and the photo was taken during that most important World Series of the Negro Leagues. This Black World Series was most important because Rube Foster’s Giants won every championship from 1910 through 1922. All but one, that is - all but this one in 1916. This was the team that broke Foster’s monopoly. Postcard photo is lightly toned with a 3” tear protruding from the bottom right edge (which is held by a piece of tape along the verso). Pencil mark on the front does not affect the gentlemen in the photo. Overall the postcard presents very nicely. A rare early Negro League photo taken from one of the more important events in the early part of the century.
