This jersey was found last summer at a flea market in Los Angeles near the LA Coliseum. Here is the research that has been done on this jersey. We have contacted the Football Hall of Fame in Canton Ohio, and they have no known player’s jerseys from the Cleveland Rams or photo’s from their last years in Cleveland. The jersey is a Number 40 and the two players that wore number 40 for the Cleveland Rams and Los Angeles Rams during this era were Chester Pudloski from 1944-1947 and Elroy “Crazy Legs” Hirsch 1948 until he retired. Our belief is that when the Rams moved to LA they took their existing equipment with them and that is why this jersey ended up in Los Angeles. How many years this jersey was recycled is anyones guess. Could this jersey have been worn by Hirsch? A wonderful vintage classic, rare gold dureen jersey worn for the Rams’ inaugural city of Cleveland. This is a gorgeous example from this early Rams team. “40” in blue tackle twill on the front and back are its only markings and the shirt shows nice vintage use with team repairs. Tagging inside back tail is “Rawlings” with [size] 40 tag to the left and “Cleveland Sporting Goods” & “Dry Clean” tags to the right. Excellent wear, and in top display condition.
