Earl Campbell is one of the most powerful running backs in NFL history. He was known as “Superman” in Houston, and he surely fit a similar profile when he reached the NFL, leading the league in his first year with 1,450 rushing yards and 13 TD’s while gaining MVP and Rookie-of-the-Year honors. His most memorable record setting Monday night against the Miami Dolphins that season ended with a 35-30 victory for the Oilers, decided by Campbell’s 81-yard touch down run in the 4th, one of three rushing TD’s that game for a total of 199 yards on the game (then a record).
