One of the last documents George Washington signed, just a few months before his death in December of 1799. Document records his domicile as “Mount Vernon”, the most historically significant and recognizable home in America. The note reads: Haywood June 15th 1799 Sir At sixty days sight be pleased to pay to Messrs. Walter Roe & Co on order of Five Hundred Dollars and place the same to the Acct of Your Most Ob. Servt (Obedient Servant) William August Washington 500$ His Excellency Genl. G. Washington Mt Vernon (Reverse) Walter Roe Esq ]the following in Washington’s hand] Presented 24th of June 1799 George Washington (Sig of Witness) Thompson Dutch The designs below the signatures of the principles, are elaborate marks used in Revolutionary times to prevent forgery. The presentation includes an ornate gold gilted frame, a color copy of the front of the draft so you could see the front and back side by side. There is an actual window on the back of the piece so you can see the other side of this important document. Actual document measures 6x7” overall framed is 20.5x32.5” and condition is NRMT.
