Presented is a pair of white satin trunks with black trim used by Heavyweight Champion, Muhammad Ali while training for his September 29, 1977 title defense against Earnie Shavers at Madison Square Garden in New York. These trunks have a large patch at the center waistband with the manufacturer's name, "Mitre" on it. Mitre also sponsored Ali's trunks and shoes for the fight with Shavers. The trunks which exhibit wear, but are perfectly intact, were part of the collection of Ali's assistant trainer and long-time cornerman, Wali Muhammad who has provided an LOA for the trunks. Craig Hamilton of JO Sports, Inc. who researched the item expressly for Lelands auction has also provided an LOA.
