Displayed is a circa 1929 Philadelphia Athletics silver plated whiskey hip flask. The 1929 Athletics were the World Champions. The team had a 104-46-1 regular season record and defeated the Chicago Cubs 4-1 in games in the World Series. He '29 Athletics were managed by Hall of Famer Connie Mack. Three of the team's offensive stars became Hall of Famers: Mickey Cochrane at catcher, Jimmie Foxx on first base, and Al Simmons in the outfield. Left Grove, who went 20-6 with a 2.81 ERA in '29, also became a Hall of Famer.
The flasks were likely manufactured commercially and sold to the public in the Philadelphia area. The offering measures approx. 3.25x4.5 (to the top of the spout), and the flask has a thickness of approx. 0.75". On the front of the flask is a raised keystone emblem, measuring about 1.6x1.7". The blue emblem has a white elephant, the famous Athletics' symbol, in the center. The hip flask has a working screw-on top. The flask weighs 5.6 ounces. The flask shows wear, with a bit of tarnish and some very small dings, some assorted scratches, and tiny bits of surface loss. The Athletics started in Philadelphia, moved to Kansas City and the to Oakland. Presently the franchise, now simply known as the Athletics, is playing some temporary seasons in Sacramento, California before a supposedly scheduled move to Las Vegas. The offering is in good condition, especially considering its age, which should be almost a century before the team likely ends uo in Las Vegas.
