Rare Oak Ridge Bombers (Oak Ridge, Tennessee) full uniform dating from the 1948 season. Although no year tag appears in either the jersey or pants, this uniform can be definitively dated to 1948 because that was the only year of the club's existence. The Bombers were a Class D minor league team playing in the Mountain States League that season. Unfortunately, although the club was one of the best in the league, attendance was so poor that the team had to relocate in mid season to Hazard, Kentucky, where they became the Hazard Bombers. Minor league uniforms in general are rare, so having a uniform surface from a club that was in existence for just a half season is especially noteworthy.
The gray flannel jersey, with zipper front, is lettered "Oak Ridge" across the front. The number "14" is featured on the upper left breast and reverse. All letters and numerals are applied in red felt. An "Athletic House" manufacturing label appears in the collar. A "Genuine Dodge Davis Flannel" tag is located on the interior rear tail. The matching gray flannel pants, with zipper fly, bear no manufacturer's tags. Both garments are original as issued and display moderate wear, including a small white paint mark on the reverse numeral "1" of the jersey.
