The first person to walk on the moon was astronaut Neil Armstrong, when he stepped on the moon at 2:56 UTC on July 2, 1969. Offered is a signed and inscribed color photo of Armstrong in his NASA landing gear. Armstrong had an interest in flight before he even attended grammar school, and he became a licensed pilot at age 16, before he obtained a driver's license. Armstrong attended Purdue University and was a Navy aircraft carrier pilot seeing combat duty during the Korean Conflict. In 1962, Armstrong was one of the astronauts selected in NASA's second-ever group. He was chosen to be the command pilot for the Apollo 11 Mission. After landing on the moon, in front of 530 million worldwide viewers on television, Armstrong took the first human step on the moon, stating words he had written: "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind." There is still controversy over whether Armstrong added the indirect article "a" before the word man. He had planned to say "a man", but some persons believe he failed to say the "a", and others say he uttered the "a", but it was drowned out by noise.

The offered photo measures 8x10". Using a fiber-tip blue marker, Armstrong boldly inscribed and signed the photo, writing on the front: "To Neil - Neal Armstrong." The offering comes with a JSA LOA for the signature (Cert. Number B86086). The signed photo is in EXCELLENT condition. Around 1993, Armstrong found that his freely given autographs were being sold online, and he essentially stopped giving autographs. He lived until 2012, but autographs from his later years are extremely limited.
