The Beatles' first concert at the Hollywood Bowl, on August 23, 1964, was an important event in concert history: It made a relative rarity at the time, the outdoor concert, and pushed it into the public consciousness, and soon enormous, outdoor concerts became the norm. Offered is a Beatles Press credential allowing the bearer to be present for the press conference on August 23, 1964.

As famed Beatles historian Martin Lewis stated in Variety: "On Christmas '63, no one had heard of The Beatles. But then, just 45 days later, they'd become the biggest thing ever." The Beatles' appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show drew 73 million viewers. Tickets to the Beatles' first Hollywood Bowl appearance had to be purchased in person, and the show sold out in less than four hours, with a waiting line almost a mile long. At the August 23rd concert, the 18,700 fans were so loud that they sometimes drowned out the music. John Lennon termed the first Hollywood Beatles appearance as "marvelous."

The press pass measures 3.5x7", with a smooth, velvet-like surface on front. The pass seems to have been initially red, with gold-colored lettering, but the colors are somewhat faded after more than six decades. The pass reads, "BEATLE PRESS CREDENTIAL/HOLLYWOOD BOWL/AUGUST 23, 1964. This pass entitles bearer to be present during press conference only./INFORMATION: HOOPLA PROMOTIONS/OL 4-5525/Bob Eubanks/Rob Foster." The pass has a few, small stray marks/stains, but is in overall very good condition, and the offering makes a fine remembrance of a key Beatles concert in the year they became "the biggest thing ever."
