Displayed is a cut autograph of Hall of Famer Hank Greenberg, a powerful home run hitter and the first Jewish superstar in American team sports. Greenberg played in 13 Majoir League seasons: Detroit Tigers (1930 & 1933-41 & 1945-46), Pittsburgh Pirates (1947). Greenberg was primarily a first baseman and played some left field. A right-handed batter, he hit a career 331 home runs with a lifetime batting average of .314. The 5-time All-Star was a 2-time World Champion, a 4-time leader in AL homers, and a 4-time AL leader in RBIs.
He was the first Major Leaguer to register for the peacetime draft and served in the U.S. Army before Pearl Harbor. He missed most of the 1941 season because of his Army duty, and after being released from the Army before Pearl Harbor, he reenlisted and joined the U.S. Army Air Corps, serving for a time in the China-Burma-India Theater of World War II. In all, he missed the equivalent of over four seasons because of his military service. After his playing career, Greenberg became a baseball executive.
The cut signature is on a piece of white paper or light card stock measuring 2.5x3.5". Greenberg signed a bold signature, about an 8/10, in blue fountain ink. Above Greenberg's signature is "HANK GREENBERG" typed by an unknown person on a narrow strip of paper about 1.5" long. The cut signature has been encapsulated and PSA/DNA Certified "AUTHENTIC AUTO" (83972970). The offering is in EXCELLENT condition.
