Displayed is a 1939 Johnny Schulte All-Star Game presentational pin given to Schulte as a coach with the New York Yankees. Schulte, a catcher, played for all or part of five Major League seasons: St. Louis Browns (1923 & 1932), St. Louis Cardinals (1927), Philadelphia Phillies (1928), Boston Braves (1932). Schulte was a second-string catcher who batted a career .262. He became a long-time Major League coach, mostly during the 15 seasons he coached for the New York Yankees (1934-48). His Yankees coaching position enabled him to become a 7-time World Champion. The 1939 All-Star game was held at Yankee Stadium, and the American League was managed by the Yankees' Joe McCarthy, and Schulte, a coach with the Yankees, was named to McCarthy's coaching staff. The American League won the game 3-1, with the Detroit Tigers' Tommy Bridges getting the win and the Cleveland Indians' Bob Feller earning a save. The Yankee Clipper, Joe DiMaggio, had a bases-empty home run in the 5th inning.

The pin, in the shape of a baseball diamond, has sides that each measure 0.75".  Each corner of the pin has a small, real diamond. A raised image of a baseball is in the center of the pin. Raised lettering on the baseball reads, "NEW YORK." Engraved on the back: "JOHN SCHULTE." The back of the pin has a clasp, one which was difficult to open and which may be stuck in a closed position. Aside from the foregoing, the pin is in overall EXCELLENT condition.
