Presented is a June 28, 1970, full ticket for the last game at Pittsburgh's Forbes Field, the second game of a double header for the Pirates against the Chicago Cubs before 40,983. Forbes Field was in the Oakland neighborhood of Pittsburgh, on Forbes Avenue, named for a British general and a hero of the French and Indian War and the man who gave Pittsburgh its name. The stadium was the National League's first concrete and steel edifice, and it was the home of the Pittsburgh Pirates through the second game of this doubleheader on June 28, 1970, when the Pirates moved to their new Three Rivers Stadium. After that game, Hall of Fame outfielder Roberto Clemente was saddened. "I spent half of my life here," said the right field legend. The Pirates won three World Series while calling Forbes Field home. Some remains of the stadium are still extant, including part of the left field wall, on the University of Pittsburgh campus. The stadium was the home of the Pittsburgh Steelers from 1933-63, and it was the long-time home of the University of Pittsburgh football teams. It hosted games in the Negro Leagues, and it also was a frequent site of boxing matches.

In the second game of the twin bill, the Pirates' last game at Forbes Field, the Pirates defeated the Chicago Cubs 4-1. Al Oliver hit a bases loaded home run for Pittsburgh and Jim Nelson picked up the win. The offered full ticket measures 1.25x5". It reads, in part, "Pittsburgh Athletic Co., Inc. RAIN CHECK. SUN. JUNE 28/1970. First Floor Box $4.00." The ticket has been encapsulated and PSA graded "FULL VG 3" (101031265).
