Dick Hoblitzell, a first baseman, had an 11-year Major League: Cincinnati Reds (1908-14), Boston Red Sox (1914-18). Offered is a charming Dick Hoblitzell mini decal bat that comes from the Hoblitzell family. Hoblitzell played his career in the Dead Ball Era and batted a lifetime .278 with 27 home runs. He was a 2-time World Champion (1915-16) with Boston. When he was with the Red Sox, he became friends with Babe Ruth and Hoblitzell, Ruth and other Red Sox players would sometimes go on off-season hunting excursions. The Red Sox decided to room Hoblitzell and Ruth together on the road, hoping the grounded Hoblitzell would have a good influence on the wild Ruth. It didn't work. Calming down Babe Ruth was one of the few things that stumped Dick Hoblitzell - and plenty of others.

Hoblitzell's time in the Major Leagues was ended when he entered the U.S. Army Dental Corps during World War I. Later, he managed and umpired in the minor leagues, was a county commissioner in West Virginia, was involved in real estate and did some broadcasting. While he didn't officially practice dentistry, he would perform some dental work as a favor for friends.

The offered mini bat has a decal on the barrel end with a color photo on it of Hoblitzell. The bat has the familiar Louisville Slugger logo at the label spot, and the handle is taped with miniature black tape. The decal, with Hoblitzell's photo, has lost some of the color, and some of the lettering around the Hoblitzell decal has rubbed off. Some of the lettering and markings on the label have also rubbed off. Part of the outside layer of tape is off, and the bat has a few nicks. Even though the Hoblitzell photo on the decal has some scratches and missing color, it is still visible. The bat is approx. 14.25" in length, and it weighs all of 1.6 ounces. The bat is most likely over a century old, and it makes a fine remembrance of a solid player and well-respected individual.
