From the famed Barry Biegelson Collection, auctioned by Guernsey’s in 1990. A resident of New Jersey, Biegelson amassed the World’s Largest Basketball memorabilia collection outside of the Basketball Hall of Fame by sitting courtside for every Nets game and eventually developing close friendships with players and visitors over the course of a decade. This amazing uniform, which belonged to Earl “The Pearl” Monroe is just one piece of his extensive collection of gifts from the players (lot #D126 from Guernsey’s). They called him “Magic” before the days of Earvin Johnson. He is one of the few players in the history of the NBA to have a cult following, a following which still exists to this day. An unmatched piece of memorabilia from one of the more important Knicks to have played in New York. Although it was with the Baltimore Bullets that Monroe became a cult hero, it was the New York Knicks who retired his jersey (1986). Earl Monroe knew the meaning of “showtime”. Teamed up with Hall of Famer, Walt Frazier, he provided fans with razzling, and dazzling type play, in what was probably the best combination of guards the game ever saw. In this New York Knicks road uniform, Monroe revolutionized the game of basketball, showing off his individual style and newly patented moves. “New York 15” in orange on white tackle twill sewn on front. “Monroe” in white on verso with “15” in orange. Tagging on front tail is “Gerry Cosby” with “Medalist Sand-Knit [size] 42” tag below. Matching shorts, each leg is adorned with painted orange apple with “NY” in the center.
