Displayed is a circa 1929-33 Official International League National League (Charles Knapp) Ball, with a signature of Jocko Conlon, who became a Hall of Fame umpire, and 11 of players who at some point in their careers played in the Major Leagues. Conlon was an outfielder in the minor leagues for 13 seasons. He played in the Major Leagues in 1934-35 for the Chicago White Sox. This offered ball has a pre-rookie Conlon autograph. In 1935, when the Major Leagues still used only two umpires, one of the umpires was overcome by the heat, and in continuing the custom of the times, a player respected for his honesty was pressed into service. Conlon was such a player, and he took to being an umpire naturally and the next season started his umpiring career in the minors, eventually rising to the Major Leagues and umpiring in five World Series and six All-Star Games. He was famous for his apparel: While other umpires wore regular length ties, Conlon wore a bowtie. Conlon was also unusual in that he signaled outs with his left hand.

Other players who signed the ball and at some time played in the Major Leagues: John Grabowski, George Susce, Doc Gautreau, Curley Ogden, Oscar Roettger, Herb Thomas, Jimmy Ripple, Clarence Fisher, Roland Glandu, Gowell Claset, and Frank Barnes. Also signing were career minor leaguers: Walter Brown and Roy Brannon. Some of the autos are faint. The signatures rate 7/10 overall, and the ball is in very good to excellent condition.
