Presented is the opportunity to possess a St. Louis Browns' team-signed Official American League Ball (Harridge), including the signature of Hall of Fame second baseman Rogers Hornsby, that dates to 1934-39. During the above-mentioned years, the Browns played in the American League and shared the use of Sportsman Park with the St. Louis Cardinals. In 1954, the Browns moved from St. Louis to become the Baltimore Orioles. Rogers Hornsby managed the Browns from 1933 to about halfway into the 1937 season. From 1934-39, the Browns never finished higher than sixth place in the American League. Hornsby was a player/manager with the Browns from 1933-37, but he mostly served as a pinch hitter and utility infielder. Hornsby played for five Major League teams, but mainly for the St. Louis Cardinals (1916-26 & '33). He batted a career .358, and he was a 7-time batting champion. He was a World Champion with the Cardinals in 1926, and a 2-time NL MVP, and a 2-time winner of the Triple Crown. He had 301 home runs, with a pair of home run leading seasons, and had 2,930 hits.

The signatures on the ball were made in blue or black fountain ink. Rogers Hornsby signed on the sweet spot, in fountain ink, with the signature neat and clearly legible, but somewhat faded. There is also a small portion of the ball's "skin" lost just above the signature and a scuff mark nearby. Additional signatures: Ollie Bejma, Rollie Hemsley, Bump Hadley, Al Strange, Grover Hartley, Bobo Newsom, Harlond Clift, Jack Knott, Jim Walkup, Dick Coffman, Bill McAfee, Debs Garms, Ed Wells, Charley O'Leary, Ray Pepper, Sam West (2), Jack Burns, Frank Grube, Ivy Andrews, Ski Melillo, George Blaeholder, and Bruce Campbell. The ball is in very good to excellent condition, and the signatures rate 7/10 overall. The ball has a covering of light shellac. The ball is also signed by Hall of Fame catcher Bill Dickey who was on the Yankees in 1935, so possibly the ball was signed at a Browns versus Yankees game. Please allow for a few possible clubhouse.
