Pittsburgh Steelers pro-model helmet designated as a backup for running back Merrill Hoge during the 1988 season. The black helmet features the Steelers logo affixed to the right side, while Hoge's uniform number, "33," is applied to the front. A piece of duct tape affixed to the interior padding reads "Hoge/Back Up.#33 1988." The helmet, which is complete with black facemask and "Air" chin strap, displays moderate wear, including nicks and scratches on the exterior and soiling on the interior. While there is no indication it was ever worn by Hoge in a game (it is missing the uniform number on the reverse of the helmet), the use suggests it was probably used by one or more unknown players during preseason or practice sessions.
