Chicago Bears home jersey worn by quarterback Mike Tomczak during the 1990 season. The navy mesh jersey displays the number "18" on the front, back, and each sleeve. "Tomczak" is lettered upon a blue mesh nameplate on the reverse, directly above the number. All letters and numerals are applied in white on orange vinyl (heat transfer application). A black "football" patch bearing the number "91" appears on the left breast. This patch was worn by all Bears players for the final two regular-season games and both playoffs in memory of teammate Fred Washington, who was killed in a car accident on December 21st. The jersey displays no tagging, but that is because the tail has been cut and custom hemmed, as have both sleeves. Despite the lack of a year tag, the patch on the left breast, and the fact that 1990 marked Tomczak's final season with the Bears, conclusively dates the garment. Given the presence of the patch it is possible that this jersey was worn by Tomczak during the club's first-round Wild Card win against the New Orleans Saints on January 6, 1991, at Soldier Field. Tomczak completed twelve passes for 166 yards and one touchdown in the team's 16-6 win that day. Aside from the custom cut and hemmed tail and sleeves, the jersey is original as issued and displays heavy wear, including team repairs on the shoulder and reverse.
