Bob Cousy was the first great point guard in the NBA. Presented is a 1986 Bob Cousy All-Star Game ring, awarded to Cousy for his participation in that year's Legends Game. Cousy grew up on the lower East Side in New York City and then in New York's Borough of Queens. The son of French immigrants, Cousy went to Andrew Jackson High School. A natural right-hander, Cousy had an accidental fall from a tree when he was in high school, and he broke his right arm, which caused him to dribble, pass, and shoot with his left hand while his right hand healed. This made him ambidextrous and greatly enhanced his skills. Cousy became a three-time All-American at College of the Holy Cross and played from 1950-63 in the NBA with the Boston Celtics. He played his entire career with Boston, except for briefly coming out of retirement as a player/coach with the Cincinnati Royals in 1969-70. Cousy was known for his daring play, with behind-the-back dribbling and behind-the-back passing many years before they became widely used. Known as the "Houdini of the Hardwood," Cousy was a 6-time NBA Champion and a 13-time All-Star. He led the NBA in assists for eight consecutive years, and he was the 1957 NBA MVP. He is a member of the NBA's 75th Anniversary Team and the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

The offered ring comes directly from the Bob Cousy personal collection. The ring was awarded to Cousy for participating in the 1986 NBA Legends Game at the '86 All-Star Game in Dallas, Texas. The silver-colored ring has a blue gemstone. Raised letters and numerals on the ring face read, "NBA All Star." The left prong has "1986" and a raised image of the State of Texas and of the NBA logo. The right prong has lettering reading "COUSY" and the NBA logo. The ring is a size 12. The ring weighs 5/8ths of an ounce. The ring is in EXCELLENT condition.
