Rare first edition of The American Card Catalog by Jefferson Burdick (self published, 1953). This is the very first price guide and reference work related to trade cards, both sports and non-sports, which is noted by the subtitle on the cover that reads "THE STANDARD GUIDE on all Collected Cards and their values." At a price of $2.00, it was probably worth its weight in gold to collectors at the time. The 168-page softcover book features entries for hundreds of sets and includes illustrations of many cards, including the T206 Wagner card, which, at a value of $50, represented the most expensive card listed. The final twenty pages of the book feature advertisements, mostly from collectors wishing to purchase cards. The offered copy features four detached interior pages, but the book is complete as issued. Numerous moderate-to-heavy creases affect both covers, but the pages are in overall fine condition, with light foxing and a few corner folds affecting just a few. A 1955 newspaper clipping is affixed to the interior front cover.
