Presented are two handwritten letters from Saturday Night Live performers and writers: 1) Gilda Radner signed handwritten letter to Janine Dreyer Nichols and a Michael O'Donoghue handwritten signed note card to Janine (some autograph bleeding). Gilda Radner was one of the original seven cast members of the "Not Ready for Prime Time Players," on the NBC TV sketch comedy series Saturday Night Live, which premiered in 1975. She was also a writer for SNL. Two of her most famous character creations were Roseanne Roseannadanna, a parody of New York City's Rose Ann Scamardella, a TV reporter, and Baba Wawa, a parody of famous television news reporter Barbara Walters. She passed away, in 1989, at age 42. Gilda Radner won an Emmy Award in 1978, and a posthumous Grammy Award in 1980. Michael O'Donoghue was the original head writer on SNL and also a sometimes actor on the show. He was known for his dark humor, often involving lots of blood and gore.

1) A letter written on card stock Gilda Radner stationery measuring approx. 4.25x6.3". The stationery has a raised "Gilda Radner" at the top, and the envelope has an address, presumably Radner's, in raised letters on the back. Using a black marker, Radner wrote to Janine and Nils Nichols. Janine was an employee of SNL. Radner wrote, "Dear Janine and Nils, I hope you two guys had wonderful Holidays with cookies and hugs and chestnuts and hard liquor - I wish you the best in the New Year and I hope mine turns out good too - Look for me in person anywhere and I'll probably be there. Love to you, Gilda." Also, included is an approx. 4.3x6.5" envelope addressed to "Mr. and Mrs. Nils Nichols" at an address in New York City. The envelope is postmarked from Stamford, Connecticut, on Jan. 8, 1983. The letter and envelope are in EXCELLENT condition.

2) On card stock measuring 4.25x6.3", "MICHAEL O'DONOGHUE" is machine stamped at the top. THE LETTER IS DATED "AUG 30TH." Also writing to Janine, O'Donoghue, using red ink from a fine-tip marker, wrote, "JANINE -----/HERE'S PIC AS PROMISED. IMAGINE BLOOD CASACADING FROM BENEATH THE RUG. (blank)X/O'D." There is some bleeding on the autograph and the words "IMAGINE" and "30th." Considering the red ink, the bleeding, and O'Donoghue penchant for bloody gore, perhaps the bleeding is only appropriate. The card has at least seven pinholes, most likely when the card was displayed. The card stock letter is in good condition. The two letters, with their inscriptions and signatures, provide a personalized connection to the first year of Saturday Night Live.
