Displayed is a large 1954 Cleveland Indians AL Champions pinback button. The 1954 Cleveland Indians, managed by Hall of Fame manager Al Lopez, won 111 games in taking the AL pennant. Hall of Fame pitchers Early Wynn and Bob Lemon each won 23 games that season, and Hall of Famer Bob Feller won 13. Hall of Fame outfielder Larry Doby, the American League's first African American player, led the AL in homers (32) and RBI (126) that year. Other stars on the team were third baseman Al Rosen, second baseman Bobby Avila, who led the AL in batting average (.342), and first baseman Vic Wertz. All of the above-named players are pictured on the offered pinback button, plus other stars such as starting pitcher Mike Garcia, relievers Ray Narleski and Don Mossi, catcher Jim Hegan and first baseman Luke Easter.
The black & white pinback button has a 3.5" diameter. Machine printed on the button: "CLEVELAND INDIANS 1954 American League Champions." These buttons were sold at the '54 World Series, which was swept by the New York Giants. The button front appears NRMT, and the back has a few scratches, but is clean with no rust at all.
