Pittsburgh Pirates home jersey worn by ace reliever Dave Giusti, circa 1971. The white knit jersey is lettered "Pirates" across the front and features the number "31" on the left breast and reverse. All letters and numerals are applied in black on gold tackle twill. Located on the interior left front tail are both a "Rawlings 44" label and a laundry tag. Giusti has signed the jersey in black marker (grading 8/10) on the front, directly below the number. Despite the fact that Pirates jerseys during this time period did not include a year tag, both the style and tagging of this jersey date it to either 1970 or 1971. Dave Giusti was the only player on the Pirates to wear number "31" during that two-year span. The jersey displays extensive wear, indicating that it was most likely used by a minor league affiliate in subsequent years, including light staining throughout, a small tear on the front, minor separation and tears to the numerals on the reverse, and reinforced stitching to the numerals. Aside from the reinforced stitching, the jersey is original as issued.

The Pirates acquired Giusti from the Cardinals after the 1969 season and made him a reliever, a role in which he quickly excelled. In 1970, Giusti appeared in 66 games, finishing the year with a 9-3 record, 26 saves, and a 3.06 ERA, numbers that helped earn him a fourth-place finish in the Cy Young Award voting at season's end. In 1971 he was even better, recording a league-leading 30 saves and a 2.93 ERA in helping the Pirates win their first World Championship in eleven years. Giusti retired in 1977 with 100 wins, 145 saves, and a lifetime 3.60 ERA.
