Circa 1966-69 Roberto Clemente Pittsburgh Pirates game used bat. Hillerich and Bradsby model U1 ash bat is 36" long and weighs 35.1 ounces. The uncracked bat shows terrific use with ball strikes as well as some checking and scoring across the barrel. Number 21 is written on the knob in fading black marker, and "G105" is stamped. Outstanding provenance accompanies this Hall of Fame gem, as our consignor had seats next to the Pirates' home dugout and became good friends with the superstar, resulting in this bat being gifted to her. As further authentication, our consignor has presented a personalized autographed photo of Pittsburgh's legend (please note that the photo is for illustrative purposes only and is not included with this lot). A true immortal of the sport - as evidenced by this season's Roberto Clemente Day celebration on September 15 - he batted a career .317 with 15 All Star nods, 12 Gold Glove awards (tied with Willie Mays for most all-time as an outfielder), was National League MVP in '66, and World Series MVP in 1971. Items like this are quite rare and would be an incredible addition to any collection. Includes a Letter of Authenticity from PSA/DNA verifying the bat's grade of GU 9.
