Pittsburgh Pirates home jersey worn by outfielder Bill Virdon during the 1959 season. The white flannel vest-style jersey is lettered "Pirates" across the front and features the number "18" on the reverse. All letters and numerals are applied in black on gold felt. Located on the left front tail are a "Rawlings Hall of Fame Flannel" label and adjacent "42" size tag. Below that, chain-stitched in black, are the jersey number and year, "18 59." Both a laundry tag, and a flag tag reading "Set 1 1959" appear on the interior left front tail. Virdon has signed the jersey in black marker (grading 6/10) on the left front tail. The jersey is original as issued and displays moderate wear, including a light stain on the front. A former Rookie of the Year in 1955 and key member of the club's 1960 World Championship team, Virdon batted .254 with 8 home runs and 41 RBI in 1959. He retired in 1968 and then enjoyed a long and successful Major League managerial career with the Pirates, Yankees, Astros, and Expos (1972-84).
