Displayed is a "Mean" Joe Greene Pittsburgh Steelers replica helmet, with four inscriptions. Greene played his college football at North Texas State University. The school's team were known as the "Mean Green," and soon Joe Greene became known, for his similarity in name and his tough play, as "Mean" Joe Greene. His first name is actually Charles, but an aunt, seeing a likeness in him to Heavyweight boxing champ Joe Louis, gave Charles the nickname of "Joe."  A defensive tackle, Greene played his entire NFL career for the Pittsburgh Steelers, and he was a crucial part of the Steelers' "Steel Curtain" defense, as the Steelers won four Super Bowls in six seasons. Greene was the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year in 1969, and he was a 2-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year and a 10-time Pro Bowler. He had 77.5 career sacks. A Coca-Cola commercial that premiered with the Super Bowl XIV in 1980 received a 1979 Clio Award depicted Greene as kind-hearted in tossing a Coca-Cola to a young boy, countering his "Mean" image. Greene is in both the College and Pro Football Hall of Fame.

The offered replica helmet is black with an orange stripe down the middle. There is a three-bar cage. The number "75" is in white, bracketing the orange stripe on top. There is a chin strap, and the iconic Steelers logo is on the right side. The back has a warning decal stating that the helmet is for display only and not intended for use. On one of the suspension straps, "7 3/8" is machine printed, and "8/9/13" is printed on an interior decal. An interior PSA decal shows a certification number (AN54971) and the same certification number (AN54971) is on an enclosed PSA COA. Greene signed and inscribed the helmet with a fine tip gold marker. His signature and the four inscriptions are neatly written. Greene inscribed: "HoF 87," "10 X Pro Bowl," "4X SB Champs," and what appears to read "78.5 sacks," as the number of sacks is partially missing. Overall, the helmet is in EXCELLENT condition.
