Displayed is a Johnny Unitas signed Wilson Official NFL football that the Pro Football Hall of Famer has inscribed as "Q.B. of the Century." Known as "Johnny U" and "the Golden Arm," Unitas played 18 NFL seasons: Pittsburgh Steelers (on roster but no games played - 1955), Baltimore Colts (1956-72), San Diego Chargers (1973). In the pre-merger NFL, he won three NFL Championships with the Colts. One of these Championships was in 1958 at Yankee Stadium when Baltimore defeated the New York Giants by 23-17 in the NFL's first sudden death overtime game, and that exciting game was the contest that many thought took pro football into big time prominence, a game often referred to as "The Greatest NFL Game Ever Played." Unitas added a post-merger Super Bowl V Championship with the Colts. The lifetime Unitas NFL statistics included 2,830 completions for 40,239 yards and 290 touchdowns, with 253 interceptions.
Imprinted on one panel of the football: "Wilson Official NFL/Paul Tagliabue Commissioner." Unitas has signed a bold, neat signature, using a silver, metallic paint pen. The offering comes with a PSA COA for the signature (Cert. # AN83014), and a "Mounted Memories" sticker on the ball. The ball is in EXCELLENT condition.
