Displayed is a September 12, 1979, ticket stub (AUTO 10) from the game at Fenway Park when Boston Red Sox Hall of Famer Carl Yastrzemski had his 3,000th hit. Yaz played 23 MLB seasons (1961-83), all with the Boston Red Sox. He wound up with 3,419 hits. The 18-time All-Star won three AL batting titles, hitting .292 lifetime, with 452 home runs. In the September 12th game when Yastrzemski reached 3,000 safeties, the visiting New York Yankees and the Red Sox were both well out of the pennant race and were playing out the string. Yaz was in a mini-slump, not having a hit since Sunday, September 9th. The Boston Globe newspaper had been running a daily banner called "The Yaz Watch," with the number "1" signaling how many hits were needed for 3,000, on display for four consecutive days. Finally, against Yankee pitcher Jim Beattie, Yaz hit a slow roller that eluded second baseman Willie Randolph, and Yaz had reached 3,000.

The offered stub measures approx. 1.75x2.25". In part, it reads, "Wed. Sept.12, 1979/GAME 74/Boston Red Sox/Reserved $4.75." Yastrzemski signed the stub using a blue fine-tip marker. Below the signature, in an unknown hand, is "3000 HIT" in blue fine-tip marker. The ticket stub is in EXCELLENT condition. The signed stub has been encapsulated and PSA/DNA CERTIFIED as AUTHENTIC, and the signature has been PSA/DNA CERTIFIED as AUTO 10.
