Jim Loscutoff was a Boston Celtics forward who was a member of seven Boston NBA Champions. Presented is a Loscutoff award bowl collection (3). Loscutoff played basketball at the University of Oregon before becoming a first round Boston pick in the 1955 NBA Draft. Loscutoff was 6'5" and 220 lbs., with shoulders seemingly as wide as a doorway and a muscular build that helped him earn a nickname as "Jungle Jim." He played his entire NBA career with the Celtics (1955-64). A physical defender, he knew that Boston coach Red Auerbach brought him to the Celtics to instill fear in opponents. He was a basketball enforcer who "protected" Bob Cousy, the future Hall of Fame guard who ran the Celtics offense. Also, known as "Loscy," the powerful team player averaged 6.2 PPG in his NBA career, with 5.6 RPG. When the Celtics wanted to honor Loscutoff with a banner over their home court with his number "18," Loscutoff declined the honor, asking his number be used for a future star, who turned out to be Hall of Famer Dave Cowens. The Celtics honored Jim by having his "Loscy" nickname displayed on a banner that now hangs from the TD Garden rafters. Engraved on the side: "JIM LOSCUTOFF/FROM THE BOSTON WRITERS/Mar. 1, 1964." The bowl has a small raised image of two basketball players below the engraving.

The three bowls: 1) A silver-plated bowl that has a diameter of 4.6" at the base and a diameter of 9" at the top. Engraved on the side: "JIM LOSCUTOFF/1955 BOSTON CELTICS 1964/By HIS EXCELLENCY ENDICOTT PEABODY GOVERNOR/THE COMMONWEALTH OF MASSACHUSETTS." The bowl exhibits some tarnishing, a few scratches, and some minor surface loss. It weighs 18.6 ounces. 2) A pewter bowl with a top diameter of approx. 7.1", resting on a 4" square base. The bowl weighs 40 ounces. There are some scratches and some tarnishing. The bowl has a tilt to the left side. 3) A sterling silver bowl with atop diameter of 6.5" and a bottom diameter of 3.5". Engraved on the side: "ADVERTISING CLUB of BOSTON/JIM LOSCUTOFF." There is a very small dent below the abovementioned engraving. The bowl shows wear, with some scratches and tarnishing. The underside of the base reads, "GORHAM YC779." The bowl weighs 14.25 ounces.
