Displayed is a Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris dual-signed Official American League Ball (MacPhail). Mantle, the Hall of Fame center fielder, and 7-time World Series Champion, played his entire 18-year MLB career with the Bronx Bombers. The 3-time AL MVP still holds the all-time Major League record for home runs by a switch hitter (536). Maris played for four teams in the Major Leagues: Cleveland Indians, Kansas City Athletics, New York Yankees, and St' Louis Cardinals. A fine all-around right fielder, Maris remains chiefly known for his 1961 season with the Yankees, when he and Mantle were chasing Babe Ruth's all-time, single-season home run record of 60. Maris and Mantle shared an apartment in Queens in New York City while the M&M Boys were chasing Ruth's record. Some in the press corps pushed a narrative that Mantle and Maris didn't get along, but the two remained friends during the joint assault on the Babe's record. In '61, when Mantle missed games with a hip abscess, Maris pressed onward and beat Ruth's record with a home run on the final day of the regular season to finish with 61 round-trippers in '61.
Mantle used blue ballpoint ink to sign on the sweet spot, signing with his neat, big and bold flair. Maris signed the ball on a side panel, using blue ballpoint ink to fashion a neat, bold signature. Both signatures rate 8 or 9/10. The ball is in EXCELLENT condition, and the offering comes with a PSA LOA for the signatures.
