Presented is the chance to possess a collection of autographs, plus two autographed photos, of four of the members of Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band. In the late 1960s and early 1970s, the Jersey Shore city of Asbury Park and its environs comprised an area that was a creative music cauldron, especially for rock and roll. Springsteen often worked with noted musicians in the area, including Clarence Clemons, Garry Tallent, and Steve Van Zandt. The aforementioned musicians sometimes worked with Springsteen and sometimes without him, appearing in myriad Jersey Shore bands, such as Little Melvin and the Invaders, Glory Road, Steel Mill, and many others. Once Springsteen began to record music and plan to go on tours, he formalized the E Street Band. The band has had an on-and-off history of backing Springsteen (1972-73 informally), (1974-87), (1995), (1999-present).
The offered autographs and photos include those of original E Street Band members Clarence Clemons, Garry Tallant, and Steve Van Zandt, plus Nils Lofgren, who joined the E Street Band in 1984. Tallant, Van Zandt, and Lofgren are still in the E Street Band at this writing. Clarence Clemons, passed away in 2011 and his nephew, Jake Clemons, has replaced him on saxophone in the current E Street Band line-up.
1) Signed Polaroid photo of saxophonist Clarence Clemons measuring 4x4". The photo depicts Clemons and an unidentified man. Clarence's dark outfit is not too visible as it blends into the background, but Clemons' smiling face is visible. Clemons autographed the photo on the bottom margin, with a bold signature in blue marker. 2) Signed and inscribed Polaroid 4x4" photo of lead and rhythm guitarist Nils Lofgren. Writing with a black marker, Lofgren boldly signed and inscribed, "Believe! Nils Lofgren." 3-6) Signed pieces of paper, each approx. 3.5x5". 3) On blue paper, signed in big and bold blue ballpoint ink: "Clarence Clemons." 4) On yellow paper, signed and inscribed in blue ballpoint ink: "Solidarity/Little Steven." 5) On pink paper: Signed in neatly written blue ballpoint ink, "Gary Tallent." 6) On pink paper: "2 [sic] Steve/Happy Birthday/Nils Lofgren." The autographs average 7 or 8/10. The Polaroid photos both have some minor paper loss/staining in the top right corner of the margin. The signed pieces of paper are in EXCELLENT condition. This small collection is a nice find for vintage Springsteen and E Street Band aficionados.
