Presented is a 1970s Bruce Springsteen signed and inscribed Patti Smith poetry book, titled Witt. Patti Smith is a singer, songwriter, poet, author, photographer, and painter. She often combines poetry and rock in her work. In 1978, her most renowned song, "Because the Night," co-written with Bruce Springsteen, reached Number 13 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart and Number 5 on the UK Singles Chart. She is a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and in 2010, her memoir, Just Kids, won the National Book Award. Springsteen, known for infusing his songs with poetry, was always interested in the genre, and had even worked on the poetry journal of Ocean County College, in New Jersey, when he was a student. Springsteen shot to fame in 1975 with his break-out hit Born to Run. The story behind the signatures on the offered book is that in the 1970s Patti Smith was playing in NYC's Greenwich Village, at the Bottom Line Club, and Bruce Springsteen was in the audience.
The offered book measures 5.5x8.5" and it has 48 pages. It was published in 1973 and distributed by Gotham Book Mart and Gallery, in New York City. Patti Smith is on the cover in an intriguing black & white photo, and she signed the cover in blue ink. On the first (blank) page, in blue ballpoint ink, Springsteen signed and inscribed, "I love her too/Bruce Springsteen." On the back cover, in blue ballpoint ink, is a signature and inscription from the actress and former Andy Warhol transgender movie star Holly Woodlawn, who scripted, "Susan, Love You, Holly Woodlawn/Women Behind Bars/Dec 9, thurs [sic]." The book contains over 20 poems by Patti Smith. The book exhibits some very slight foxing in some places, but it is in overall EXCELLENT condition. The book comes with a PSA LOA for the Springsteen, Smith, and Woodlawn signatures.
