Presented is a circa 1955 terrific group of Pittsburgh Pirates and Brooklyn Dodgers autographs, including signatures from Hall of Famers Roberto Clemente (signed as Bob Clemente) from Pittsburgh, and Jackie Robinson and Pee Wee Reese, from Brooklyn. The signatures are believed to have been originally obtained by Wayne Braun, a high school baseball player in Fort Myers, Florida. Braun apparently gathered the autographs during the Pirates' spring training season in 1956, at Terry Park, in Fort Myers. The autographs appear on the front and back flyleaf pages of the book, Baseball's Hall of Fame, by Ken Smith. Pittsburgh signatures: Clemente, Pirate immortal who had exactly 3,000 hits; Jerry Lynch, one of baseball's best pinch hitters; Dale Long, who once had a home run in eight consecutive games, and who, on a few occasions, was a catcher, one of the few modern catchers who threw left-handed; Elroy Face, great reliever; Max Surkont, noted right-handed starter; Bobby Bragan (manager). Brooklyn signatures: Robinson, whose fierce competitiveness helped the Dodgers to six pennants in his career, and, with the other Dodgers who autographed the book, was a member of Brooklyn's only World Champions, in 1955; Pee Wee Reese, Brooklyn's long-time captain; Carl Furillo, known as "The Reading Rifle," for his home town in Pennsylvania and his great right field arm; Don Newcombe, big, right-handed pitcher, who was a great hitter for a hurler, batting .355 in 1955; Sandy Amoros, the Cuban left-fielder who made a game-saving catch in Game 7 in the '55 World Series. The other two signatures on the book: Val Northcutt (Fort Myers high school player) and Max Braun (Wayne Braun's brother). The signatures rate 9/10 in blue ballpoint pen. The dust jacket is brittle, with paper loss throughout. The condition of the book is good. The offering comes with a PSA LOA for the signatures.
