Displayed is a Sept. 9, 1965, ticket stub from the Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Chicago Cubs perfect game of Hall of Famer Sandy Koufax at Dodger Stadium. Before a crowd of 29,139, Koufax struck out 14 Cubs, the most batters in history to be fanned in a perfect game. The perfect game was the first-ever for a left-hander and the first perfect game at night. Koufax became the first Major League hurler to throw a no-hitter in four consecutive seasons. He threw 113 pitches, 79 for strikes. The Dodgers scored the game's only run in the bottom of the 5th inning when Lou Johnson walked and then advanced to second base on a mishandled bunt. Johnson then stole third base and came around to score on an overthrow to third by Cubs catcher Krug. Cubs pitcher Bob Hendley had a double no-hitter with Koufax until Lou Johnson singled in the 7th inning. The final out in the game was when Koufax fanned pinch-hitter Harvey Kuenn on a 2-2 count. The game was not televised. Vin Scully did the radio broadcast for the Dodgers and directed that a tape of the 9th inning be made, and later Scully gave the tape to Koufax.
