Exceedingly rare 1910 Philadelphia Athletics World Champions ribbon pin issued by the Leeds Base Ball Club of Philadelphia. This is the first example of this elaborate ribbon pin we have ever offered and we have seen only three others at auction in the past twenty-five years, one of which resided in the preeminent pin collection of Dr. Paul Muchinsky. The ornate design features a celluloid bar at the top that reads "Athletics." A second celluloid bar hangs below and reads "1910." The final hanging piece is a large eagle medallion, in the center of which is a celluloid portrait image of A's manager Connie Mack. The dual color ribbon is lettered "World's Champions/Leeds/Base Ball/Club/Philadelphia." 1910 marked the first World Championship in Philadelphia Athletics franchise history and was the start of a five year span that witnessed the A's winning four pennants and three World Championships. It should be noted that the practice of issuing World Series press pins did not begin until 1911. Therefore, this elaborate pin is the only such item we have commemorating Philadelphia's historic first World Championship. The pin (2.25x8.5") displays fading to the colors on the ribbon, as well as a several small tears to the fabric. The pin has been mounted upon a white backing and is framed to total dimensions of 9x19.25".
