Presented is a 1974 Johannes Neeskens Holland FIFA World Cup player's pass for one of the all-time great midfielders in international football (soccer). This is a really special item, as it was Neeskens' personal player's pass for the 1974 World Cup as a member of the Netherlands team. Neeskens played professionally from 1968 through 1990-91. His most noteworthy club teams: Ajax (1970-74), Barcelona (1974-79), and the New York Cosmos (1979-84). With both great energy and amazing skill, Neeskens played a complete game. On defense, he was adept at winning the ball back for his side. He was also an outstanding scorer for a midfielder, tallying 33 goals for Ajax, 35 for Barcelona, and 17 for the Cosmos. He was one of the key players on the Netherlands' Word Cup runners-up teams in both the 1974 and '78 World Cup, and he was a perfect fit for the style of those iconic Netherlands teams, when they employed a system called "Total Football," in which field players were trained to switch positions on the fly in a brand of improvised football in which defenders could suddenly become midfielders and then become attacking forwards. In the 1974 World Cup Final, Neeskens scored a goal, but the Netherlands lost to Germany, 2-1. In his international play for the Netherlands, Neeskens scored 17 goals in 49 games.
The pass measures approx. 32.x4.4", with a small clip at the top. The pass reads, "A IV/00789/Teams WM74 FIFA Aktivenbereich/Name Neeskens Johannes J./Holland/DR. Helmut Kaser/General Secretary." On back, "Authorizes to enter the competitors' area in all World Cup Stadia." An approx. 1x1.25" black & white photo of Neeskens is on the front left of the pass. The pass exhibits some darkening and a few slight stains and minor folds. A World Cup player's pass, from an all-time great midfielder on the renowned "Clockwork Orange" Holland teams in '74 & '78, makes a terrific collectible.
