New York Mets home jersey worn by mound ace Johan Santana in a game against the New York Yankees on June 29, 2008, at Shea Stadium. Accompanied by both an LOA from the New York Mets and an MLB hologram label (affixed to the reverse number) attesting to its game-used provenance. The white knit pinstripe jersey is lettered "Mets" across the front and features the number "57" on the left breast and reverse. The name "Santana" is lettered on the reverse, directly above the number. All letters and numerals are applied in tri color (off set) blue on orange on black tackle twill. Located on the interior left front tail are a "Majestic size 50" label and three flag tags reading, respectively, "Set 4 2008," "+2' sleeve," and "Taper." A New York Mets team patch appears on the left sleeve, while a "1964-2008 Shea Stadium" commemorative patch adorns the right sleeve (2008 was the Mets' final season in Shea Stadium). The jersey is original as issued and displays light wear.
The Mets played the Yankees at Shea Stadium on June 29, 2008, but Johan Santana did not make an official appearance in the game (Santana was the starting pitcher for the Mets the night prior, on June 28th). However, this is the jersey he wore during that game, which the Mets won 3-1. 2008 marked Santana's first season with the Mets and he finished the year with a record of 16-7 and a league-leading 2.53 ERA. Johan Santana was one of the game's top pitchers between the years 2003 and 2010. A two-time American League Cy Young Award winner, Santana won 122 games during that eight-year span and in 2012 he pitched the first (and only) complete-game no-hitter in Mets history.
