Displayed is a 1960 NBA All Star Game brown leather travel valet. It is not clear to whom this attractive valet was issued, as it could have been to a player or any other NBA personage. The '60 All Star Game was held at Philadelphia's Convention Hall, with the East Conference defeating the West Conference 125-115. Back in 1960, the NBA had only eight teams. In the game, Hall of Famer Wilt Chamberlain, the center of the host Philadelphia Warriors, dominated the action as he tallied 23 points, with 25 rebounds. Hall of Fame forward Elgin Baylor had 25 points and 13 rebounds for the West's Minneapolis Lakers, who later moved to Los Angeles. The valet measures 11x16", and when empty it has a thickness of less than an inch; it expands when filled. On top of the valet is a "plaque" (slightly angled), measuring 0.75x3" and reading, "Tenth Annual N.B.A. ALL STAR GAME Jan.22, 1960 * Phila., Pa." Above the working snap on the front is stamped "Travel Valet." The offering can unfold to a length of approx. 35.5", with a hook on the top to hang it. Inside, it has three pockets and a zippered section. The valet is either unused or has very light use, and it is in EXCELLENT condition.
