Large "NFL" stadium flag that was flown at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum during Super Bowl I on January 15, 1967. This rare Super Bowl I relic originates directly from the personal collection of 2011 Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee Ed Sabol, who was the founder of NFL Films. Sabol was at Super Bowl I and after the game he asked an NFL official if he could have the flag as a souvenir. As we see here, the official was only too happy to oblige. After Sabol took possession of it, he wrote the year, "1966," in black marker in the lower right corner (the year denotes the season, not the date of the Super Bowl). The notation, "NFL," is written in black marker on the upper left border. This flag has been consigned directly by Ed Sabol's longtime personal assistant, who is the source for all the Ed Sabol personal items featured in this auction. According to his assistant, the flag hung on the wall in Sabol's home office in Pennsylvania for over forty years. The cloth flag (89x54"), which has two metal grommets along the left border, displays moderate wear commensurate with its age and former use, but remains in Excellent condition overall.
