Exceedingly rare signature example of 1939 Heisman Trophy winner Nile Kinnick. This piece is new to the hobby and has been consigned directly by the family of the original recipient. Kinnick's signature appears on the reverse of a ticket to a 1940 sports award banquet at which Kinnick was the guest speaker. Kinnick's signature has been scripted in pencil and grades 8/10 overall. The printing on the front of the ticket reads "1939 Football Award Banquet/Honoring Letter Men of/Central High - - Northern State/All American/Nile Kinnick/Speaker/Monday, February 5, 1940/Alonzo Ward Ballroom - Six Thirty O'Clock P. M./Sponsored By Quarterback Club."
The original recipient was fourteen years old when he attended this banquet with his parents and he was lucky enough to obtain Kinnick's signature on the back of his ticket. The ticket was later placed in a scrapbook, where it remained for decades before being professionally removed just prior to this auction. Kinnick's signature is the rarest of all Heisman Trophy winners due to his tragic death at the age of twenty-four in 1943 during World War II. This is just the fifth example we have ever offered in the past twenty-five years and examples are seldom seen at auction. The fact that this ticket bears his name on the front, and is dated just two months after his winning the Heisman Trophy, makes it an extremely desirable example. The ticket (3.75x2") displays numerous light creases throughout. Full LOA from JSA.
