Displayed is a 1956 United Press Type I image of Hall of Famer Ted Williams being congratulated by Hall of Fame second baseman Nellie Fox after the "Splendid Splinter" bashed a 6th inning Warren Spann pitch to right-center and out of Washington's Griffith Stadium in the 1956 All-Star Game. Fox had singled and then scored on the Williams home run. The next American League batter, Mickey Mantle, hit a bases empty home run to drive Spahn from the game. The Pittsburgh Pirates' Bob Friend got the victory as the NL won 7-3. Billy Pierce, of the Chicago White Sox, took the loss. Even at 37 years of age, Williams was still going strong in '56, with a .345 batting average and 39 homers. Attached to the photo back is a suggested United Press Photo caption reading, in part, "Back-to-back homers by Ted Williams and Mickey Mantle... thrilled the All Star crowd in the 6th inning today." The approx. 7x9" photo has been encapsulated and PSA/DNA Certified as "TYPE I AUTHENTIC." The photo is in EXCELLENT condition.
