Presented is a group of three negatives for each of three separate images from the 1964 World Series photos that were used to produce World Series cards in Topps' 1965 set. The 1964 St. Louis Cardinals won the World Series in seven games over the New York Yankees. These nine negatives were part of a lot of 12 negatives from the 1964 World Series, all used for 1965 Topps cards, and the other three negatives are in this auction in a separate lot, as they are of Mickey Mantle. The aforementioned dozen negatives were from the August 18 & 19, 1989, Topps Archives at Auction Addendum from Guernsey's Auction. The lot was not in the Guernsey's catalog from this auction, but it is listed on the enclosed Guernsey's packet as "BB352E": 1) Three identical negatives from Game 1. This photo shot was used for 1965 Topps card #132. The negative shows Yankees future Hall of Famer Whitey Ford just after Cardinals right fielder Mike Shannon, also pictured, hit a 6th inning two-run homer to right field to tie the game. Ford took the loss in a 9-5 St. Louis triumph at Busch Stadium I. 2) Three identical negatives from Game 5. This photo was used for Topps '65 set card #136. The negative shows the Cardinals celebrating after defeating the Yankees 5-2 in 10 innings at Yankee Stadium. The Cards' Tim McCarver crosses home plate at Yankee Stadium, greeted by the two runners who were on base for his three-run blast: Bill White and Dick Groat. Bob Gibson went the distance for St. Louis, striking out 13 batters and getting Roger Maris to hit a foul pop to third for the final out. 3) Three identical negatives from Game 7. This photo was used for the '65 Topps card #139. The Cards' future Hall of Famer Bob Gibson went the distance in a 7-5 St. Louis home win. Gibson was tired, as this was his third start in the World Series, and he gave up 9th inning Yankees homers to Clete Boyer and Phil Linz before getting Roger Maris to foul out to third baseman Dal Maxvill for the final out. The offered nine negatives measure 2.3x3.3". They are in EXCELLENT condition.
