The popularity of our National Game at the turn of the century manifested itself in many ways at the retail level, but perhaps none more exquisitely than here in this rare 14K gold triple-hinged pocket watch produced by the renowned American Waltham Watch Company, of Waltham, Massachusetts. This is one of fewer than five examples of this 14K gold baseball pocket watch we have ever seen, and the first we have offered. It also has tremendous crossover appeal and would be among the highlights of any advanced baseball or antique watch collection.

The unique design on the white porcelain face features beautiful illustrations of generic ballplayers at each of the twelve hours, except for 6:00 o'clock, which instead displays the second hand. The players are all depicted in various baseball activities, such as throwing, batting, sliding, etc. A crossed-bats-and-ball illustration, pictured directly below 12:00 o'clock, features a hanging banner that reads "Waltham." The company name, "American Waltham Watch Co." also appears above the second hand.

The exterior front casing features a shield design that could accommodate engraved initials if so desired. The company name and "17 jewels" are engraved on the movement. "14K" is engraved on the interior casing, as is the serial number "6526404." The face displays a few tiny scratches near the base and is otherwise in Near Mint condition. The casing displays light tarnishing and a few tiny scratches. In Excellent to Mint condition. The watch remains in perfect working order. An impeccable example of this rare timepiece and one of the most beautiful baseball items from the period.
