Rogers Hornsby could hit. Big time. The right-handed batter averaged .358 lifetime and batted over .400 three times, with a high of .424 in 1924. Presented is a government postcard signed and inscribed by "the Rajah," a Hall of Fame second baseman. Hornsby played 23 Major League seasons (1915-37). He was on the St. Louis Cardinals (1915-26 & '33), and he played on four other clubs. Hornsby was a perfectionist with his health. He neither drank or smoked, and he would not read books or attend movies because he thought those activities would damage his eyesight. He was a 2-time NL MVP, 2-time Triple Crown winner, 7-time batting champion, and a part of the Cardinals 1926 World Championship team. The included government postcard measures 3.25x5.5". Hornsby signed the card in blue ink. Using neat, big and bold script, Hornsby wrote, "To Paul from Rogers Hornsby." The card is self-addressed by a fan, and it has a Chicago postmark dated July 22, 1949. The card shows two creases, a few small stains. Because of the passage of 75 years, the postcard exhibits some normal, light foxing and overall darkening. The autograph presents well. The postcard has been encapsulated and has a PSA/DNA AUTO GRADE of "NM-MT 8."
