Gold Smith "Official 97 League" baseball signed in black fountain pen by New York Giants team members Mel Ott, Travis Jackson, and Hank Gowdy. Each player has signed the ball on a separate side panel, which allows for the ball to be displayed as a Mel Ott single if so desired. Ott's signature is the strongest of the three, grading 7.5/10, while those of Jackson and Gowdy grade, respectively, 4/10 and 5/10. Mel Ott single-signed balls are scarce due to his early death in 1958 at the age of forty-nine. As a result, he remains the "toughest" single of all the 500 Home Run Club members. A ball such as this offers collectors an affordable alternative to a true Ott single, with no difference in display value. The ball is lightly toned, with several minor blemishes.
