Presented is an amazing 1910s Ty Cobb single-signed ball from early in his career, without an inscription or personalization. The Hall of Fame center fielder signed the ball in black ink from a steel-tip fountain pen on the sweet spot, and the autograph "drifts" into a part of the side panel. The signed ball is a Reach Official American League Ball (Johnson). The fiercest competitor baseball has ever had, Cobb viewed the ballpark as a field of combat. "When I played ball, I didn't play for fun..." said the 12-time AL batting champ. "It's a contest and everything that implies, a struggle for supremacy, a survival of the fittest." The one-time MLB record holder for both hits and steals, Cobb dominated vintage baseball. The offering possesses incredible display quality, as the signature takes up some of the sweet spot and side panel, which is extremely rare, especially for such an early ball, since most Cobb autographed balls are completely signed on side panels. The offering comes with a JSA LOA, one which officially lists the location of the signature as the sweet spot. The offered ball exhibits darkening and some frequent, small losses of "surface "skin." The offered baseball is in very good condition, and the autograph rates 6.5/10.
