Displayed is a really fun and unusual pair of late 1940s Pittsburgh Pirates Stanford pottery banks. They are not modeled after late '40s Pirates slugger and Hall of Famer Ralph Kiner. No, these eye-catching items are modeled after actual Pirates, the type that sailed ships, but ones that play baseball as well. Standing approx. 7.6" tall, the Pirate's head is proportionately enormous, exaggerated to about half the length of the body. One pottery bank has all full paint, while the other has just the black and tan colors, and it remains mostly unpainted; it is unfinished or some sort of prototype. The finished Pirate has a red bandana around long, black hair. He wears a black eye patch, has a handlebar mustache and a gold tooth. On his jersey is "Pirates" in red. He wears a baseball glove on his left hand, and he has a great, gold colored earring in his left ear. The is a slot on top of each pirate's head in which to deposit coins. Each Pirate weighs 15.25 ounces, and he stands upon a 3" square base. The finished and unfinished Pirate are both in EX-MT+ condition, except that the unfinished one only has the black and tan colors. These are intriguing keepsakes and make rare additions to sports collections.
